What plans do you have to deal with the Labor Shortage in the transportation industry? Most would say “What labor shortage, how can there be a labor shortage with unemployment numbers so high?”

    The Facts

The baby boomer generation is moving toward retirement like a tidal wave. Estimates of federal workers at retirement age or eligible to retire in the next few years are as high as 53 percent.
“There are more than 250,000 unfilled entry-level positions in the construction and transportation industries today”.

The Labor Department reported that seasonally adjusted initial claims fell 2,000 to 351,000 in the week of Feb. 25. The four-week moving average, considered a more accurate gauge of labor market conditions, dropped 5,500 to 354,000, the lowest since March 2008.

7 States Restrict Credit Checks for Screening

March 6th, 2012 → 9:41 am @

The proliferation of credit checks for hiring decisions is at risk. The practice has come into vogue the past few years for employers looking to screen out individuals who have gone bankrupt, or otherwise have low credit scores. Lawmakers in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, and Washington have ruled against the practice, citing a 2010 study by the Society for Human Resource Management that concluded only 9% of employers saw a good credit report as one of the most important factors in hiring, behind more important factors such as experience, specific skills and a favorable interview. The concern of lawmakers is the relevancy of credit checks when a bankruptcy could be due to unrelated considerations such as medical bills or an unexpected layoff.

BirdDog Releases Sage Timberline Interface

March 6th, 2012 → 8:35 am @

BirdDog announced today the Company has completed an interface between the Company’s candidate record and the employee record in Sage Timberline Office. Users of both systems can now align the fields in their online application form with both of their BirdDog and Timberline databases, and transfer data between those systems. The solution will eliminate duplicate online and offline processes, paper and pdf application forms, and minimize the manual data entry residing behind offline processes and paper and pdf application forms. This is an especially painful process for contractors who experience high turnover, high velocity hiring, and remote site hiring, and will automate the companies affirmative action compliance.
